Hands on the Shells
Rooted in two distant yet parallel landscapes—Trabzon and Nicaragua—our performance is a sonic journey through the shared rhythms of hazelnut and cacao harvesting. 👩🌾 These crops, so deeply tied to the hands of women, the cycles of the land , and ancestral knowledge, form the pulse of our collaboration ❤️🌍.
Drawing from field recordings, traditional harvesting songs, and oral histories from our grandmothers’ generation 👵, we weave a musical narrative that connects the misty hillsides of the Black Sea with the tropical groves of Central America. The work merges organic textures 🍃 with live vocals 🎤, electronic instrumentation 🎛️, and traditional elements from both regions 🪗.
In a world where sustainability is often framed in abstract terms, we return to the ground—literally. Our performance honors the labor, care, and cyclical wisdom held in these harvests 👐🌰. By listening to the earth 🌍 and the women who tend it, we ask: What does sustainability sound like when it’s rooted in memory, ritual, and shared resistance?
It’s a call to remember. To taste the soil, to hear the hands, to honor the roots. 🌱🤲
