Friday Society – What Formats Do We Need Today?

Coming together in an informal setting, making sense of current developments, and discussing what we can contribute to a better world – this has been around for a long time 🕯️. In the “Berlin Wednesday Society” of the 18th century, well-off men from various social backgrounds discussed the topic, and it was there that the famous question “What is Enlightenment?” was formulated and articles published in a monthly magazine 📖. The French philosopher Foucault viewed the question of Enlightenment as an attitude and an art of living, as an agent of transformation 🎭. Can a reference to the Enlightenment in 21st-century Berlin help us sharpen our own ideas, narratives, and approaches? 🤔 Does the concept of Enlightenment 2.0 help us in our commitment to sustainability in the face of right-wing countermovements, extractivism, and collective burnout? 🌱 What kinds of societies and publications will move us forward now? And what about the revolution? ✊

The Association for the Promotion of a Sustainable Urban Culture (Verein zur Förderung einer nachhaltige Kultur e.V.) from the Baumhaus and the Institute for Practical Ekophilosophy invite you to a shared reflection 💬. After a short discussion with Jessica and Karen, we want to start exploring these questions together 🤝. The evening will kick off a joint event series and closer collaboration 🌍.
